Event completion (Aug. 18)

KENT, Wash. - Elimination rounds from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event presented by Napa Auto Parts that was postponed earlier this year at Spokane County Raceway were completed at Pacific Raceways on Thursday, prior to the start of the Pacific Raceways event set for this weekend.  All classes were given a single time run, followed by all rounds of eliminations and the winner's circle celebration.

The elimination rounds delivered three homestate champions. Washington bragging rights were on the in line in the Stock Eliminator final round. Jody Lang, Puyallup, Wash., ran 12.939 seconds, 79.32 mph picking up an easy victory as Brad Burton, Snohomish, Wash., fouled at the starting line. Dave Kelly, Walla Walla, Wash., ran 9.913 seconds, 160.75 mph to outlast Gary Culp, Hermiston, Ore., 9.899 seconds, 138.77 mph in Super Gas. And in the Super Street final round, Josh Dalrymple, Sunnyside, Wash., ran dead on the 10.900 second index at 155.15 mph for the victory as Steve Lowe, Langley, B.C., fouled out.

The other drivers visiting the winner's circle were Brian Hyerstay, Eugene, Ore., in Comp Eliminator; Darcy Clarke, Spruce Grove, Alb., in Super Stock; Mike Shannon, Kelowna, B.C., in Super Comp; Mike Williams, Tilley, Alb., in JBS Top Sportsman, and Nick Axtman Jr., Gig Harbor, Wash., in Rig Rentals Top Dragster.

In Sportsman Motorcycle Presented by Harley Davidson, there was another all-Washington affair. Cody Cumpton, Vancouver, Wash., ran 9.019, 111.89 to defeat Gary Stemple, Lacey, Wash., 12.883, 104.94 for the Washington supremacy.

Sunday (May 22)

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. – Mother Nature brought both rain and cold temperatures to Spokane County Raceway that forced track and NHRA officials to postpone eliminations for this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.  The event will be completed on Thursday, August 18, at the upcoming Northwest Division Lucas Oil Series event at Pacific Raceways.  The Pacific Raceways event will begin on Friday and run as scheduled.

Fields were set on Saturday during final qualifying and time trials with Brian Hyerstay, Eugene, Ore., leading the class in Comp Eliminator, running 9.244 seconds, 0.666 under his index.  Darrell Dietz and Larry McLanahan are on top in Super Stock and Stock with Dietz, Medicine Hat., Alb., posting a 9.074 second lap in his ’10 Cobra Jet.  McLanahan, Kennewick, Wash., went 8.898 in his ’16 Mustang to lead Cal Method, also out of Kennewick in Stock.

Daryl Hemley was low in Top Sportsman posting a run of 6.899, 198.45 and Quentin Chambers, Bellingham, Wash., leads the Rig Rental Top Dragster class at 6.710, 222.82 mph.


Saturday

SPOKANE, Wash. – Racers in the Rigs Rental Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator classes made final qualifying runs today that set their fields for Sunday’s eliminations for the NAPA Auto Parts NHRA Lucas Oil Divisional event. 

The event is the second of six in the NHRA Northwest Division with racers earning points toward national, regional and divisional championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $500,000. 

Gates open on Sunday at 8 a.m.  Racing begins at 9:00 a.m.  Admission for the event is $12 each day.  Children 12 and under are free with a paid adult.   For more information call Spokane County Raceway (509) 244-3333 or visit www.spokanecountyraceway.com.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Racing kicked off today for the NAPA Auto Parts NHRA Lucas Oil Divisional Drag Races, the second of six in the NHRA Northwest Division where drivers will earn points leading to national and divisional championships

The division’s Top Sportsman Series, Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series and Comp Eliminator classes made a pair of runs today and will make final qualifying passes on Saturday at 11a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  Super Stock, Super Gas and the rest of the classes in competition ran qualifying and time trials today, which will continue tomorrow, followed by eliminations on Sunday. 

Gates open at 8 a.m. on Saturday with final qualifying and time trials set to begin at 9:00 a.m. Admission for the event is $12 each day.  Children 12 and under are free with a paid adult.   For more information call Spokane County Raceway (509) 244-3333 or visit www.spokanecountyraceway.com.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2016 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA’s seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2016 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series’ eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2016 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a “double up” bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2016 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

The $14,000 champions’ purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.

The $3,500 champions’ purse will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers.
