About Madras Dragstrip

Madras Dragstrip, is a well-regarded grassroots drag racing facility that has served the local motorsports community for decades. Nestled in the scenic high desert of Central Oregon, the dragstrip offers a welcoming environment for racers and fans alike, making it a popular destination for regional drag racing events.

The dragstrip features an eighth-mile strip that hosts a variety of racing activities, including bracket racing, test-and-tune nights, and special events throughout the racing season. Known for its friendly atmosphere and community focus, Madras Dragstrip provides a platform for both seasoned racers and newcomers to experience the thrill of drag racing in a supportive and accessible setting.

In addition to its regular events, Madras Dragstrip is also a part of the broader NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) drag racing community. The NHRA is the largest and most prestigious drag racing organization in the world, governing numerous events and series across the United States. While Madras Dragstrip primarily caters to grassroots racing, it occasionally hosts NHRA-sanctioned events, allowing local racers to compete under the official rules and regulations of the sport's leading authority.

NHRA drag racing is characterized by its high-speed, high-adrenaline competition, featuring categories such as Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and more. NHRA events are known for their intense, side-by-side drag races where vehicles reach incredible speeds in just a matter of seconds. The organization also emphasizes safety, innovation, and the development of drag racing at all levels, from local tracks like Madras Dragstrip to the national stage.

Madras Dragstrip’s connection to the NHRA helps bring a touch of professional drag racing to the local community, allowing fans and racers in the area to engage with the sport in a meaningful way. The track remains a cherished part of Oregon's racing culture, providing a space where the excitement of drag racing can be enjoyed by all.
